About the writer
I have worked in education for more than 17 years, 15 years of which were in elementary and adult classrooms as the classroom teacher, and I am now in school leadership as a principal of a PreK-5th grade elementary with a deaf and hard of hearing program. I have taught math methods for California State University of Bakersfield, and adult figure drawing and painting at College of the Canyons. In 2003 I earned my doctorate in educational leadership from UCLA, focusing on lesson analysis as a method for helping teachers grow in math instruction. In 2007, my teaching team represented the USA at the Microsoft Worldwide Forum for Innovative Educators. I have written three books for educators.
I love the intersection between meeting the needs/wants of society and keeping an eye out for each individual child. I wonder whether it is a conundrum that can ever be resolved.
